about MENTOR ME
OUR STORY
Mentor Me of Ulster County began with a simple but powerful observation. As an Attendance Social Worker in the Kingston School District, our founder Stephanie Kresser, LCSW, witnessed a consistent pattern among students facing challenges: many lacked a significant adult role model in their lives.
Day after day, Stephanie worked with children dealing with chronic absence, family instability, and housing insecurity. She saw how the presence of just one caring adult could change a child's trajectory. More importantly, she understood that within our community lay the solution – caring adults who could step forward to mentor these young people, if only given the opportunity and structure to do so.
In 2020, driven by this vision, Stephanie established Mentor Me of Ulster County, building it on three core values:
ASK
We begin by asking compassionate questions to understand each child's unique needs
help
We respond with concrete support and resources
hope
We work tirelessly to instill hope and resilience in every mentee
Today, our evidence-based program creates lasting connections between youth and mentors, while providing comprehensive support to families throughout Ulster County. What began as one social worker's response to an urgent need during a challenging time has grown into a community-wide movement of caring adults helping young people thrive.
