Belong. Grow. Thrive.

Mentor Me is a community of people who believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen. We match youth in Ulster County with mentors who show up for them, and we back that up with real-world programs and resources that meet everyday needs — so kids and families can focus on growing, not just getting by.

What We Do

We’re more than a mentoring program. We’re a support system.

We know that a strong relationship can change a life. But kids need more than just a mentor.
Many of the youth we serve face tough challenges like poverty, housing instability, trauma, or the
loss of a parent.

So we do more. Mentor Me offers:

One-on-One and Group Mentoring
Trained adult mentors spend real time with kids, building trust, sharing fun experiences, and offering steady support. Some kids are matched one-on-one, and others join small groups where they can
connect and grow.

Regular Programs and Enrichment
We host regular playtimes, creative activities, and group outings where kids get to have fun, make friends, and feel safe just being themselves.

Family Support & Referrals
Many of the youth we serve face challenges like food insecurity, housing instability, or limited access to basic needs. We offer thoughtful, tailored referrals to trusted local resources and help families connect with the support that fits their situation.

Activity Scholarships
Every child deserves a chance to try something new, build skills, and feel included. Our activity scholarships remove financial barriers to extracurriculars like sports, dance, art, or music. We help cover the cost of registration fees, uniforms, equipment, and even transportation when needed.

Emergency Needs Fund
Sometimes families face sudden or urgent needs — like a child who needs new shoes, winter clothing, or help covering a medical expense. Our emergency fund helps bridge the gap, offering small but meaningful support during tough times. It’s one more way we care for the whole family, not just the mentee.

why it matters

In Ulster County, nearly 1 in 4 children live in poverty. Many face challenges like food insecurity, housing instability, or the loss of a parent. And across the country, 1 in 3 young people grow up without a mentor — someone outside their family they can turn to for guidance and support.

That gap matters. Because research shows that when young people have strong, stable relationships and access to supportive services, they’re more likely to succeed in school, stay out of trouble, and build confidence and resilience.

At Mentor Me, we step in where systems fall short. We connect kids with mentors who show up consistently and care deeply, and we help families connect to the resources they need to stabilize and grow.

We believe no child should have to navigate life alone. Through mentoring and community support, we make sure every young person feels seen, supported, and hopeful about their future.

Who We Serve

Mentor Me works with kids and teens ages 6 to 17 who are facing real-life challenges. Many live in low-income housing or motels. Some have experienced the loss of a parent, are in foster care, or are navigating difficult circumstances at home or in school. Others may be struggling with mental health, social isolation, or simply need someone in their corner.

No matter their story, every child deserves a village. We aim to be that village.
